"Leah, Leah, Leah, my dear sweet Leah, how does your garden grow?"

My true love has my heart, and I have his. Together in marriage, together at heart. In good times and hard. In sickness and in health. For now and forever.

Who am I?

I thought I'd fill all of you in on the biggest parts of my life, from who I am to how I got here... The good stuff mostly :) It's partly to help bring focus to myself on my own life. I've been down lately and am hoping to feel better soon.

So here goes. Who am I?
Well I'm Leah and I'm 24 years old. I am married to my amazing soldier, Steve, who is a Captain in the Army. I am the mother to two beautiful and wonderful children: my daughter, Lily, a five year old girlie-girl and my son, Jax, a three and a half year old boy who loves dinosaurs and cars. I have two gorgeous four-legged babies: my kitten (well more of a cat now) Luna and my dog (possibly a purebred Great Pyrenees) Beau.

I have made alot of mistakes in my life but my kids have never been one of them. I didn't choose the right man to have them with (if you can even call their biological father a man, sometimes I don't) but I love them more than anything and am so glad they are mine and in my custody.

Lily was born January of 2007, when I was 19. She was a hard pregnancy and a horrible labor but she came into the world with a full head of hair and gasolene eyes. Her hair and eyes have lightened up alot since she was born and now has dark chestnut brown eyes (like me) and dirty blonde/light brown hair. Her favorite things are dance class, her dolls, her dog and cat (she thinks our animals are hers), my husband (Daddy, in her eyes), her brother and me. Her favorite color is pink and she thinks she's a princess.

Jax was born June of 2008, when I was 20, almost 21. He was the simplest pregnancy ever, no morning sickness and a relatively easy labor. He was born with a full head of hair and dark gray eyes with green flecks. Like his sister, those changed. His eyes are now dark brown with flecks of green and his hair is the same as his sister's dirty blond/light brown. His favorite things are dinosaurs, cars, trains, dirt, Daddy, his sister and me.

My own father, who was my first hero, sadly died on October 27th, 2009 and left me broken-hearted and without a family. I loved my Daddy fiercely, as only a daughter can love a father. He was in the US Air Force, in the Special Ops. He spent his life fighting against evil men, teaching me the Military Values that would become so ingrained in me that no one measured up, except my husband. He was funny, kind, amazing. He spoiled me and loved me and took care of me. He did all the things a Dad is supposed to do and more. When he died, I lost so much more than just a Dad. I lost my white-knight, my Hero and my biggest supporter of all my dreams and hopes. In honor of his memory, I got a tattoo on my left calf (actually two) of his unit coin. On one side it says "305th Spec Ops" above a skeleton hand holding arrows and below it says "Darkness Brings Death". On the other side it says "Daddy" above a grim reaper standing in front of the tail of a C-141 and below it says "Sleep Tight". My Daddy's unit motto was "Darkness brings death, sleep tight."

My husband and I met in March of 2010. We were supposed to be pen-pals when he was originally going to deploy with a different unit. He didn't end up deploying but we ended up talking on a daily basis, exchanging texts and emails, building a relationship that we weren't even sure what the future held for it, if it even held anything. We became good friends.

Then in July of 2010, he and I met face-to-face and felt a strong connection. While we both agreed not to make promises until we were positive that we would be able to keep them, we swore that we would stay in touch and send letters while he deployed to Afghanistan. He still called me as much as he could, wrote me letters and I wrote him. Our connection grew as the time passed where we only got to know each other, finding that as each day passed, we thought of each other more and more.

Finally in November of 2010, I swore that I would wait for him (although I hadn't dated anyone else while he was gone anyways). Also in November of 2010, I started Recruited ByLove, a facebook profile set up to be a support page and friend to other military girlfriends, wives and family members. (The way it's grown has blown my mind and I keep thinking of other ways to expand and make it something real and viable, something that will help not only the women on the page but others who have never even joined).

In January 2011, he came home for R&R and we spent all the time together we could, when we agreed that I would move to Fort Polk to wait for him and live in his house. From the time I lived in Louisiana til he came home, he and I dealt with everything together as much as we could with him being half a world away. I got things ready for his return and he helped me take care of things. We were serious about our future together. Talks of marriage and kids came up.

He came home from Afghanistan in August of 2011, and I was never happier about a man in my life. On post deployment leave, he brought me to Indiana to meet his family, the first time he's ever introduced someone to his family since he'd left home. They didn't like me for their own reasons (that mostly have to do with religious and cultural differences) but that doesn't really matter to me, the only thing that does is how my husband feels about me and he loves me.

After our post deployment vacation, we decided to get married as soon as we could. We started going to pre-marital counceling with his unit Chaplain (who also married us) and believe it or not, our Chaplain picked our wedding date (November 11, 2011).

He officially proposed to me on October 17th, 2011. The way he proposed was so wonderful. We had already picked out my ring (it's gorgeous) and had to have it shipped so I didn't get to wear it without an official proposal :). He took me to the training area of Fort Polk, where little "Afghan villages" are set up and the wild horses roam. I was petting a wild mare and softly talking to the mare when he approached me, got down on one knee and asked me "Leah Gose, will you be my wife?" Of course, I said yes. After all, that was my plan for so long :)

After a month of rushing around to finalize wedding plans and get it all set up, we were married in the Airborne Chapel on November 11th, 2011 (11-11-11) by our Chaplain with close friends and Steve's mother and one of his sisters present. It was a wonderful day and the day my life as the Captain's wife began.

Since we've gotten married, we adopted our cat, Lunatic, a beautiful black and white kitten, made improvements on our house (which we're selling to PCS soon), celebrated holidays, attended Army functions together, spent time as a family together. We have been through doctor appointments, dental appointments, family drama, and alot of other things. We also had our dog, Beau, show up out of the blue and make our family even more complete.

He spoils me rotten and makes my life perfect. Sure, it's not actually perfect. There's drama with petty army wives, frustrations from being in the Army life, bills to pay, things that have to get done, stress from PCSing, raising kids and every day stuff that tends to pile on faster than we can get it done. It's great though, because we are together for as long as we can.

And he encourages me. He encourages RBL and school and my artistic side. He loves that I create beautiful things, from my garden to poetry. He loves that I'm a good mother and that I care. He doesn't mind all my tattoos, or the fact that I want more. He doesn't mind that I dye my hair bright red because the idea of having natural hair bothers me. He doesn't mind that I am a bookworm who reads incessantly. He doesn't mind that I would rather wear cowboy boots and jeans than flip flops and shorts. He doesn't mind that I swear and have an attitude. He likes that I understand the military better than most girls he's ever been with. He likes that I can represent him at military functions and be his public face. He likes that I am a big-hearted softy when it comes to animals and people. He doesn't mind that sometimes I'm over-emotional. He loves me.

And I love him. I love how great he is with the kids. How he is such a hard worker, smart, funny, caring, wonderful, overall amazing. I love that he's getting his Master's degree soon. I love that he's strong enough to deal with things that I can't. I love that he has such a strong moral compass and doesn't deviate from his views, even if I disagree with them. I love that he has his own ways to have fun and I have mine. I love that we are close and that neither of us want to be with anyone else.

The fact is, my life is pretty great. I have these beautiful children who make my world a little bit more sparkle worthy. I have this great man that loves my kids like they are his own, that loves me with all his heart. A man who lets me keep animals as soon as I have my heart set on them. I love that he gave me everything I ever dreamed of and more. I have a beautiful cat who purrs almost every time I pick her up and cuddles with me when she has a chance. And now, I have this handsome dog, who isn't overly affectionate, but enough to know he loves me already.

I have friends that I love to talk to. My closest friends are Megan and Liz, who sadly live far away from me. Megan is in New Jersey and I introduced her to my friend, Eric, an enlisted soldier, who I met while being his pen-pal while he was in Iraq. They are so good together and every time I hear about how they are doing, a part of me feels so great. I was able to introduce a good couple to each other. Liz is in Florida and hasn't found anyone serious yet, but we go back a long time and know each other really well. Both of those girls are my sisters of the heart. I'm so lucky to have such great friends in them.
Our future holds a new post in less than two months, hopefully a baby, named Hunter or Willow, maybe a puppy in addition to Luna and Beau. Hopefully, I will have more friends, a more active social life and more things to be happy about in the future.

I am happy. I am in love. I am faithful, compassionate, loyal, loving. I have a big heart when it comes to kids and animals. I am untrusting when it comes to men and don't get along that well with women. I'm shy around new people and am one of those people where you either love me or hate me, there really isn't middle ground. I love music of all kinds. I love to watch TV on DVD or on Netflix rather than watch commercials. I love hockey and football, teams being the Jersey Devils and the Washington Redskins. I love to read and have already read almost 30 books this year alone (and it's only March 8th). I love to knit from time to time and I love to take pictures and edit them. I love to spend time with my family and I love to cuddle with my pets. I love when my husband takes me to dinner and I love when we all go out together. I love when everything is going good and nothing is going wrong.

And most of all, right now I just am happy to be alive, despite the stress... Sometimes I have to go over the past couple of years to see how great my life really is... I'm a lucky girl.

Love,
Leah

Homecoming

Homecoming is FAST approaching!!! I'm super excited. I have almost everything done that i want to do (just two kinda big things left) but soon, I'll be totally done and he'll be home... <3 yay!!! I made him some homecoming gifts::: a jar full of red, white and blue hearts :) and a film canister that will hold all of the letters that I can't send him while we're in this 'tween area. Things are coming along nicely :) I couldn't be happier.

Also today, I got three "new" books, some of my favorites... "Of Mice and Men," "A Brave New World" and "Animal Farm." I also got the last book in a silly teen trilogy that I have been reading. My book shelf feels happy with the newest additions.

Tonight, I'm dying my  hair bright red again, just in time for homecoming. I'm also wearing pirate boots, jeans, a cute shirt that says "Captain's wench" cute accessories, and a yellow ribbon tied in my bright red hair. :) I'm gonna look hot. :) Soooooooooo excited.

One step closer

So Today is one day closer to being reunited with the love of my life ♥ I'm super excited and starting to get really panicked at the same time... A year is a long time and things do change. Just physically speaking, my hair is longer, my skin is darker, my face is a little older, I have a few more scars than I had before he left... Not even to say the ways I have grown as a woman.

I have grown and matured over the past year. Raising my kids and doing 3 moves by myself was tough... but somehow I managed to pull it off. I discovered the true strenght of my spirit, the true hight of my endurance and the true nature of... my soul, my heart, my purpose. I have realized more of my flaws while living entirely on my own (besides my children). I've learned what I can handle alone and what I can't. I have witnessed the best in myself during moments I was forced to overcome myself and do more than I had ever done.

I have also found more purpose over this past year than I have had in a long time, at least since working at LRMC in Germany. I founded Recruited ByLove, which made me realize my true dream in life: To be there for the American Military and the families and to find a way to make a positive difference in their lives. So far, I am limited to offering support and smiles.

I have changed. There's no doubt. I just hope he loves those changes as much, if not more, than the me he fell for. It would break my heart completely if he doesn't.

July 1st, 2011

Happy Canada Day! Well, it's my first one outside of Canada for years and my first Fourth of July weekend in the States after nearly 7 years. I'm super excited. I just wish Steve was home to celebrate also. I've been writing letters and cleaning and getting ready for homecoming. There is still alot to do and I'm not sure how I'm going to get it all done but when push comes to shove, I normally manage to do the things I need to do. Sometimes, I don't even know how.

It is July. July means that next month my Soldier will FINALLY be home after months and months of him being so friggin far away. I'm so grateful he's coming home. I really need my Captain home.

Anyways, I've been super busy and should actually being busy right now but had to take a minute and share. There's been alot on my mind and I'm not really sure how to explain it. All I know is that somehow I feel like things are hanging in the balance. Yea, that's a good explanation.

Well, I'm off to clean and get my kids fed and put down for a nap. Soon enough our lives are going to change. Right now, I'm going to enjoy these moments where it's just them and me, because soon enough, there's a man who is coming home, who will pretty much make our lives complete and the best part is, he wants to.

Love, love, love, Leah

I am yours.

It doesn't matter how you started, What matters is how you will finish.
I'm hoping the rest of my life is better than it is now. I hope that the best of my past is the worst of my future.... Do you think that's even possible? Steve says it is... I believe him... or I want to believe him. He'll be home soon. In about 2 and a half months... I hope anyways... I just hope he knows I love him as much as I do, which for me is inexplicable. <3

I love my Soldier always, not for a single moment has that changed.
I am always going to be in love with you.
Thank you for loving me too.

Why did you go so soon?

It felt like you just got here when you left. I really didn't know what to expect but I was so relieved that you were the same guy that I'd remembered from last summer. I am glad War hasn't changed you, except maybe make you think about our future more, which I must admit I don't exactly mind. You are the most amazing man I've ever known and every day with you, even the one where I got sooo sick it was awful, was amazing. I'm pretty in love with you, soon-to-be an official US Army Captain Steve <3 I miss you so much already. Come home soon. <3

I like who we are when we are around us

We had a great time over r&r and I miss you already. You have only been gone a few days and already I'm withering away. <3 I love you, Stephen <3

Thoughts on life.

You must be the change you wish to see in the world ~ Ghandi

Sometimes this quote really rings true for me. Since starting Recruited ByLove, I have done so much more than I ever thought I was capable of. I saved a great girl from doing something that would be forever unchangeable. I have helped two mothers in bad relationships get the help they need. I’ve been there for countless girls, listening to them vent, offering advice and giving them a friend whenever they need. Recruited is more than just a support site, it’s a calling and it’s mine. I have so many ideas and watching this page grow has been such an amazing adventure. I’ve never had so much love in my heart and I’ve never felt so good in my life. Having these girls, my boyfriend, my kids, living in the States (even if it’s a state that I hate) has been good.

So HE arrives in less than two days. He’ll be here Tuesday Afternoon and my heart skips a beat whenever I think about it. He is beyond all doubts the best man in my life and I would do everything and more to keep him in it for the rest of it. Yesterday I went shopping for food and ended up loading up on some stuff that I really love and picked up the ingredients to make Chicken-Fried steak. It will be so amazing. I also got my “welcome home” outfit put together. I picked up these almost army-style camo pants, a grey shirt which I customized to say “OPERATION TAKE THIS OFF and you’re in charge!” Underneath I will be wearing a very sexy pair of panties and bra. They are pink and black with black lace and a little silver bow in the middle of the bra and panties. So cute. I asked the girls on RBL and they said it sounded cute too. So whew.
Today I’m doing laundry. My god, washing all the blankets and just this weeks clothes and towels is taking forever. I can’t believe how much it takes sometimes. I have devote a day entirely to laundry, just to get it done. But it will all be done, everything will smell good and he’ll be laying in my bed in just a few days <3 My God, I am so excited and anxious.

Every fault I have is sticking out. I’ve broken out and I’m barely sleeping so I have bags under my eyes. Tomorrow I have dedicated to being my at home spa day. All day I will be getting ready, painting my nails, dying my hair a nice lovely shade of brown, and best yet, getting my room together. Also I have to fit homework in there, so I bought the biggest can of monster they sell and am going to force myself to get everything done for the week Monday night and Tuesday morning.

One of my neighbors agreed to babysit for me so I can go out with HIM alone YAY! Thank Gosh. I’ve been searching for one and less than three days prior, I found one. WOOT!

Anyways, I’d better get back to my day. Just wanted to check in. Have a gooder

Jan 10, 2011

I sit here, trying to find the words to explain what I feel at the moment and all I can come up with is hopeful, worried and in love. Over the past few days, I've been extremely worried about things, things concerning myself and my two children but today, today my amazing man promised me that he'd help me get things straightened out when he gets here and that soon enough I'll be leaving. He also reminded me that we have to go "Christmas" shopping when he gets back. He's even talked about going about an hour away to really make a day of it. I have never been so blessed as to have this amazing man in my life, this wonderful, sweet, charming man who in all reasoning should shake his head and walk away but stays with me, loving me from far away, helping me whenever he can, promising me a brighter future and holding onto that promise.

Today Social Service showed up to "inspect" and found nothing, as I knew they wouldn't but when they try I get worried. They left saying that they would call me. Good, bye. Right after they left, I got back online with my love and told him, he said he was glad nothing had happened and that the rest of their concerns would go away and he'd have my back (and my front and all the other soft places haha).

I am so blessed with him, it's ridiculous. I love him beyond all else and I can't wait to see him. Soon, very very soon

God bless!

first friday of 2011

Well, this week has gone pretty well. I have gotten a lot done via school work is concerned. Turned in my first paper today, we’ll see how well I do. I had to chop a lot out of it because I had too many words. My computer finally let me download microsoft word again. It took ages. I wrote my report, did more than the minimum in all my classes, took notes for two weeks, have another paper to write next week, but I find out the topic on Monday, so no worries for the weekend. Just going to do my test tomorrow because I couldn’t focus on it tonight.

My biological father is not the type of man I’d wish on anyone. He hates me with a passion and whenever I refuse to allow him into my life, he tries to take me down any way he can. This time he’s focusing on my kids, which is so crap. He called Child services where he lives because he doesn’t know where I live. And there’s a reason for it. I don’t trust the man and I knew I shouldn’t. so I told him to back off and leave me alone. But he chose not to and then I told him I’d never let him in and he did this. Any wonder why I don’t trust him?

Makes me miss my Daddy, this all-too-amazing hero, who loved me and never for one minute made me feel less like his beautiful daughter, I was his little girl. He really gave me the best gift of all, unconditional love.

I haven’t gotten to talk to Steve in over 2 days. I miss him a lot and I’m slightly worried, but I am looking forward to that call, the one that says “Baby, I’m on American soil.” God, it consumes me. I miss him so much.

Anyways, it’s Friday night, I got a package from Belgium full of amazing chocolate, my auntie sent it to me. She’s not my real aunt but I’ve always found family in the world, we adopt each other…

Anyways, off to watch something mind-numbing and study a little more. Might take my exam tonight just to get it over with.

Love, Leah

college and life

Well, I am in College officially and focusing on it is actually pretty hard to do. I've been immersed in notes and working on assignments and papers for the past three days, knowing that I have to get ahead in class so when my Baby comes home (I KNOW THE DATES!!!!) I won't fall behind. And it's alot. I have a test to take this week, one more day of "going to class" and a paper to turn in. Plus there are 4 chapters worth of notes per class in the next two weeks that I'm trying to get written so I can relax when he's here.

In other news, it snowed  today, which was pretty but cold. I don't really like Snow anymore, blame it on the 3 years I spent in Northern Manitoba, but yea, wow, so not my thing.

I got to talk to Steve. We have some really amazing conversations and I'm so worried about him coming home, but so excited. He's the love of my life, and he doesn't even know it yet, but he will. When he gets here.

Anyways, I have to get back to school work. Fun Fun.

Love, Leah

I'm finally going home

Goodbye, Canada. I'm done with you. You've brought me almost nothing good. Other than my two beautiful children, you have broken me almost beyond repair. I am just now coming back to life and it's because of an American man who brings the joy into my life.
